JCI Background
JCI is an equal opportunity employer. This relates to all aspects of the employment relationship including application and initial employment; promotion and transfer; selection for training opportunities; wage and salary administration; and the application of service, retirement, seniority, and employee benefit plan policies.
ElJay®, an aggregate equipment manufacturing business, had operated in Eugene since 1947. In 1976 ElJay® was sold to Cedarapids, Inc.®, a division of Raytheon headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts. In May 1995, Cedarapids, Inc. announced the plan to transfer the ElJay® manufacturing operations back to Iowa and to close down the Eugene facilities. This announcement ultimately lead to the formation of Johnson Crushers International, Inc. (JCI) on August 1, 1995 by six visionary Eugene area people.
JCI grew quickly. Rapid expansion along with the growing needs for capital to support the increase in business lead to the sale of JCI to Astec Industries on November 1, 1998.
